The evaporator is the refrigeration component that is responsible for absorbing heat in a cooling system. Its primary function is to allow the refrigerant to absorb heat from the surrounding environment, which is typically the interior of a space being cooled.

As warm air from the environment passes over the evaporator coils, the refrigerant inside the coils evaporates from liquid to gas due to the heat absorption. This process removes heat from the air, leading to a drop in temperature in the cooled space. The refrigerant, now in gaseous form, is then transported to the compressor to begin the refrigeration cycle again.

In contrast, the compressor pressurizes the refrigerant vapor to prepare it for the next stage of the cycle, the condenser condenses the refrigerant vapor back into a liquid by releasing the heat absorbed earlier, and the expansion valve regulates the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator but does not absorb heat itself. Each component plays a vital role in the refrigeration cycle, but only the evaporator is tasked with the critical function of absorbing heat.
